Under the Oaks

Under the Oaks is a gentle collision of eras. A historic 1858 church reimagined as contemporary accommodation.

In photographing this project, the focus was on the understated details that define this luxury stay and shape the guest experience - those small, thoughtful touches that that evoke the comfort of a home away from home. The quiet sense that someone has anticipated your needs. It’s this considered care that makes this place memorable.

The interiors strike a perfect balance of heritage bones and modern soul. High ceilings. Arched windows and doorways. Soft linens draped over a four-poster bed. A black, clawfoot bathtub set against a textured feature wall. A fireplace anchoring the living space. The restoration preserves the character of the past while bringing it gracefully into the present.

I photographed the meeting point between history and modern design - how shadows fall across stone, how textures hold stories from both eras, and how the space finds its balance between reverence and renewal.

Natural light lingered in the space, illuminating the details that make it feel lived-in and serene. The gallery feels intimate without being small, spacious without being cold. Much like the stay itself.

Fun fact: I stayed at Under the Oaks on the eve of my own wedding.
